Organizations

The truest testaments to Siteman Cancer Center’s expertise are the esteemed institutions that have welcomed us into their ranks since our founding in 1999. Membership in such organizations has helped us gather the funding and resources necessary to become leaders in cancer research and treatment.

NCI Designation

In 2005, Siteman Cancer Center was designated a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The NCI is the United States’ leading agency for cancer research and training.

The comprehensive designation was awarded through the NCI’s cancer centers program and is its highest level of distinction. This honor can only be given after a center has gone through a rigorous review by experts in the cancer field.

Siteman was awarded comprehensive status because of our expertise in every phase of the cancer journey. We are renowned for our:

  • Basic and clinical research programs
  • Programs in cancer prevention, control and population-based research
  • Outreach and education efforts for residents and health-care providers in the St. Louis region
  • Innovative research that bridges these disciplines.

As part of this comprehensive appointment, Siteman Cancer Center received a support grant from the NCI. This grant provides funding for programs and specialized services in multidisciplinary research and shared scientific resources. It also provides seed awards that allow our scientists to pursue new research ventures.

In 2015 and 2020, the NCI awarded Siteman Cancer Center an “exceptional” rating, based on a rigorous review of Siteman’s research programs.

NCCN Membership

In 2006 Siteman Cancer Center became one of the 28 centers that make up the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN). The NCCN is a nonprofit alliance of the world’s leading cancer centers dedicated to improving the quality and efficiency of cancer care.

As an NCCN member, Siteman plays a key role in educating cancer patients, healthcare providers and other groups. We do this by creating guidelines for treatment and clinical practice, providing clinical trial information, planning conferences and publishing leading-edge research.
