Aug. 25, 2010 – The Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital is pleased to welcome Washington University breast surgeon Amy Cyr, MD, to its physician team through a unique partnership with the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine. Cyr is an assistant professor of surgery at the School of Medicine.

Cyr, in collaboration with Washington University medical oncologists at the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, provides a multidisciplinary approach to treating breast cancer patients. She will see patients in St. Peters and at the main Siteman campus at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

“I’m excited to join the excellent patient care team at the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Peters," Cyr says. "In addition to treating breast cancer, I also manage a wide range of benign breast disorders and have a special interest in women at high risk of developing breast cancer. I offer these women genetic testing as appropriate and can advise them on risk management and risk-reduction strategies.”

Breast cancer patients at the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital have direct access to a breast health navigator, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist and breast surgeon. “A multidisciplinary approach provides patients with specialized treatment that is cohesive, comprehensive and timely – all key ingredients for positive outcomes in cancer care,” Cyr says.

Cyr received her medical degree from the University of Nebraska in Omaha and completed a residency in general surgery at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C., where she served as chief resident. She is board-certified in general surgery. She completed a fellowship in breast surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. Cyr’s professional memberships include the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the Society of Clinical Oncology.

Cyr will be seeing patients along with thoracic surgeon Varun Puri, MD, in the Washington University office located in the hospital's outpatient surgery and endoscopy center, adjacent to the Siteman Cancer Center. To schedule an appointment with Cyr, call 314-747-7222 or 800-600-3606.
