Minimally Invasive Colorectal Surgery

Oct. 6, 2010 – Minimally invasive techniques have come a long way for patients in need of colorectal surgery. In this episode of Cancer Connection, Siteman Cancer Center surgeon James Fleshman, MD, explains the benefits of laparoscopic surgery for both colon and rectal cancer patients. Fleshman says he believes laparoscopic surgery is the best option for many colon cancer patients, and it’s becoming a viable option for rectal cancer patients as well. Generally, laparoscopic surgery provides the same results as open surgery with reduced pain and faster recovery times.
