Chronic diseases like cancer are among the most common and costly of all health problems in the United States. More importantly, they also are among the most preventable.
Cancer is caused by a variety of factors, some of which are under a person’s control (like diet), some that are out of a person’s control (like age) and some that are unknown. While it’s not possible to completely eliminate a person’s cancer risk, it is possible to reduce risk by focusing on those factors that can be modified and changed.
And for those risk factors that can’t be changed, knowledge is power. Some people with increased risk for cancer may consider earlier or more frequent cancer screening or preventive therapy.
