Siteman Receives $350,000 From Charitable Shoe Sale

QVC_badgeJune 20, 2011 – When QVC Inc. and the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) teamed up to offer thousands of shoes at half the manufacturer’s suggested retail price during the 17th annual QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” event in October 2010, it was easy for shoe lovers to take a step forward in the fight against breast cancer.

The Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine was one of eight beneficiaries of the event, which supports breast cancer research and education institutions nationwide. A check in the amount of $350,000 recently was presented by QVC and FFANY representatives to Siteman director Timothy Eberlein, MD.

“Support from QVC and FFANY allows Siteman to foster the science that will have the greatest impact,” Eberlein says. “Funding has allowed our Breast Cancer Research Program to generate truly novel research pathways.”

Since its inception, QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” has sold over 1.5 million pairs of shoes and donated more than $35 million to leading breast cancer research and education institutions. The event’s two “Special Pink Benefactors” – the Nine West Footwear Corp. and Brown Shoe Co., which is based in St. Louis – donated more than $500,000 of inventory, bringing shoe shoppers such brands as AK Anne Klein, Enzo Angiolini and Bandolino as well as Via Spiga, Etienne Aigner and Carlos by Carlos Santana. Other companies that donated shoes included MICHAEL by Michael Kors, UGG Australia, Coach Footwear, BCBGeneration, Jessica Simpson, Vince Camuto and Calvin Klein.
