Siteman Helps Middle School Students Learn About Cancer Prevention

Nov. 23, 2010 – With help from St. Louis Cardinals mascot Fredbird, the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine recognized a group of students at Margaret Buerkle Middle School on Nov. 22. The students were winners in the school’s “Six Ways to Stay Healthy and Prevent Cancer” essay and T-shirt design contest.
During the event, about 200 sixth-graders at the south St. Louis school were taught ways to prevent cancer and got tips on how to stay healthy from Tracey Beason, a cancer prevention expert and postdoctoral research associate at Washington University.
