FDA Approves Yervoy For Metastatic Melanoma Patients


May 24, 2011 – Metastatic melanoma is a difficult diagnosis to receive because it’s generally considered incurable. In this Cancer Connection podcast, Siteman Cancer Center medical oncologist Gerald Linette, MD, PhD, discusses the progress made in treating metastatic melanoma, particularly with the drug Yervoy. In March, the Food and Drug Administration approved Yervoy for the treatment of the disease. Linette says the drug has been shown to extend the lives of those diagnosed with metastatic melanoma and that most patients are eligible for the treatment.
