Siteman Completes 5,000th Bone Marrow Transplant
July 31, 2011 – The bone marrow and stem cell transplant program at the Siteman Cancer Center is one of the largest in the world and has recently completed its 5,000th transplant. In this Cancer Connection podcast, Siteman deputy director John DiPersio, MD, PhD, talks about the progression of the program since its first recorded transplant in 1982. DiPersio says in the program's early days, treatment regimens were harsh and difficult for patients to manage. Today, advances have improved outcomes and reduced side effects. In recent years, Siteman's program has been a key player in contributing to advances in research and treatment.
