Sales of Cardinals Ball Cap Raise Nearly $55,000 for Cancer Research

June 13, 2012 – The St. Louis Cardinals and Sportservice teamed up for a second season last year to raise money for cancer research by selling limited-edition Cardinals baseball caps. For every hat sold, the organizations donated $10 to the Siteman Cancer Center.

On June 12, Siteman director Timothy Eberlein, MD, received a check for last year’s proceeds, which totaled nearly $55,000.

“We at Siteman are grateful for the support of the St. Louis Cardinals, Sportservice and all Cardinals fans who bought caps to help us fight cancer,” Eberlein says.

Dan Farrell, Cardinals senior vice president of sales and marketing, and Stephanie Spargur, Sportservice retail manager, joined Eberlein during the on-field presentation. Siteman’s other representatives were Graham Colditz, MD, DrPH, associate director of prevention and control, and Don Clayton, associate vice chancellor and executive director of medical public affairs for Washington University School of Medicine.

Sales of the cap, which features a multi-colored ribbon symbolizing cancer awareness, totaled about $112,000 over the two-year campaign.
