Jan. 17, 2013 – Patients at the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine will receive a helping hand thanks to a contribution from the Cancer Care Foundation.

The local nonprofit, which raises money through the annual Steinberg Winter Classic hockey tournament, recently donated $40,000 for Siteman patients who need assistance with treatment-related expenses.

“The Siteman Cancer Center is thankful for these funds, which help patients concentrate less on finances and more on improving their health and overall well-being,” says Timothy Eberlein, MD, Siteman director.

The donation will help pay for transportation to and from chemotherapy and radiation treatments, pharmaceuticals, child care and other needs.

Joe Fresta Jr., a two-time testicular cancer survivor, founded the Steinberg Winter Classic, a three-on-three tournament. The second tournament and related events will be help March 1 to 3 at Forest Park. Visit for more information.
