Sneak Peek @ Saks Showcased Remodeled Store to Support Siteman

Behind the floor-to-ceiling curtains, 120 shoppers got their first peek at Saks Fifth Avenue's 10022 shoe department at Plaza Frontenac. The Sneak Peek @ Saks event showcased a fusion of the art and fashion worlds, while supporting cancer research at the Siteman Cancer Center.

"Saks Fifth Avenue generously donated 10 percent of the sales from the evening to the Siteman Cancer Center," says Millie Cain, vice president of business development at First State Bank and co-chair of the event. "That donation combined with the event's tickets sales resulted in a generous contribution to the Discovery Fund."

The Discovery Fund allows Timothy Eberlein, MD, Siteman's director, to support promising new areas of research that will provide an impact on the lives of cancer patients and their families.

The Oct. 25 event featured eclectic cuisine and cocktails, with entertainment by Flamenco guitarist Lliam Christy. The event's focal point was Saks' signature ladies' shoe salon, a mecca for St. Louis' designer footwear enthusiasts.

"It was so gratifying for us to have such a wonderful turnout for this event," says Alan Brainerd, owner of Alan E. Brainerd Interiors, design editor for Ladue News and event co-chair. "It was a remarkable expression of our guests' dedication to such a worthwhile cause as the Siteman Cancer Center." He adds, "My mother battled breast cancer for 20 years, so I am always grateful for opportunities such as this to support cancer research."

"Siteman is one of the nation's leading research facilities investigating the causes of cancer. I was delighted to have the opportunity to support these efforts by working on this wonderful event." Cain says. Her father passed away in 1998 from pancreatic cancer, so she also looks for ways to further the work being done at Siteman.

"We are so grateful to Saks for choosing Siteman as the beneficiary of this exclusive sneak peek of their wonderful store," says Cain. "It truly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience."
