Why Siteman

Everyone who experiences cancer deserves the best possible care. But relatively few cancer programs provide the breadth and depth of services that can be found at the Siteman Cancer Center. What sets Siteman apart?

  • We are the only cancer center in Missouri and within a 240-mile radius of St. Louis to hold the prestigious Comprehensive Cancer Center designation from the National Cancer Institute. We also are one of only 21 institutions to hold membership in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network

  • Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine, our parent institutions, also are nationally recognized, with U.S. News & World Report magazine consistently ranking both among the best in the country.

  • We offer the expertise of more than 350 Washington University research scientists and physicians who provide care for 8,500 newly diagnosed cancer patients each year, far more than any other cancer program in the region. Patients are evaluated by multidisciplinary teams that specialize in treating various types of cancer. These teams include surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, psychologists, social workers, nurses and other health care professionals who meet regularly to discuss patient cases. Through this multidisciplinary approach, patients receive the best individualized care. You can learn more about Siteman's treatment programs and teams by selecting the "Treatment Programs" menu option at the top of this page and clicking on a cancer type.

  • Scientists and physicians affiliated with Siteman hold about $160 million in cancer research and related training grants. The results of basic laboratory research are rapidly incorporated into treatment advances. This process is enhanced by patient access to more than 250 therapeutic clinical trials, which offer new treatments not widely available at other cancer centers.

  • We streamline the clinical experience for newly diagnosed patients by providing outpatient services in one centralized location – the Center for Advanced Medicine on our main campus in St. Louis. All necessary exams and appointments take place in this location, often on the same day. A variety of support programs and services also are available through the Barnard Health and Cancer Information Center in the lobby of the center. For patients who want to receive care closer to home, Siteman offers satellite facilities in west St. Louis County, south St. Louis County and St. Charles County.
