Siteman Holiday Cards Available
Oct. 31, 2012 – To help celebrate the season, the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is offering holiday greeting cards featuring artwork created by cancer patients and those who support them.
The fronts of the cards include reproductions of square ceramic tiles painted through Siteman’s Arts as Healing program. The program, led by Washington University’s Medical Photography, Illustration and Computer Graphics (MedPIC) department, is designed to help patients express themselves and use art as a tool in healing.
For the past several years, MedPIC staff members have offered Siteman patients and their loved ones the chance to paint a 4-inch square tile in waiting rooms or during treatment. Thousands of the tiles, which offer inspirational messages and words of thanks, are displayed in the outpatient treatment area on Siteman’s main campus.
Many of the tiles also are featured on the holiday greeting cards. (Click here to view all designs and an order form.) Cards can be purchased in any quantity and any combination of designs. The cost is $1 per card. The inside of the cards are imprinted with the message: "Wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season." For an extra fee, cards can be inscribed with a custom message and the sender’s name. Proceeds benefit the Arts as Healing program, which offers a variety of activities for patients and families throughout the year.
Cards can be purchased at the Barnard Health and Cancer Information Center in the lobby of the Center for Advanced Medicine on Siteman’s main campus, 4921 Parkview Place, St. Louis, or by calling 314-362-7844. Shipping is available for an extra charge.
