New Hours and Staff for the Barnard Health and Cancer Information Center

Heather Orr

The Barnard Health and Cancer Information Center at the Siteman Cancer Center has expanded its hours and added a new staff member.

The center's operating hours are now 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The hours were extended to better serve the growing number of patients, families and caregivers at Siteman.

Also, Heather Orr has joined the center as onocology nurse coordinator. In her new role, she helps plan, develop and oversee educational and other support programs offered through the center.

Orr's history with Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the Washington University Medical Center campus dates back to the early 1990s. In 1992, she entered Barnes College of Nursing. The following year, she began working as an undergraduate nurse on the inpatient medical oncology unit at Barnes Hospital. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in nursing in 1996, she transitioned to a staff nurse role on the same oncology unit.

Orr later worked for a private oncologist at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and as an infusion nurse at the former Barnard Cancer Center, prior to the creation of the Siteman Cancer Center. She then left the institution for a short time, originally returning as a lead charge nurse on the same inpatient medical oncology unit in which she began her career in 1993.

"There are so many lives that we have yet to touch," Orr says. "I am lucky to be part of such an amazing team of oncology caregivers. I am blessed to be able to work in a position that gives me the opportunity to interact with cancer patients."
