Emerson/Anheuser-Busch Challenge

Emerson and Anheuser-Busch, two of St. Louis’ oldest and most prominent companies, have joined efforts to create an unprecedented opportunity: a $10 million challenge to advance research and patient care at the Siteman Cancer Center.

The Emerson Charitable Trust and the Anheuser-Busch Foundation have committed $6 million and $4 million, respectively, to help Washington University School of Medicine, Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the Siteman Cancer Center generate an additional $20 million to support the cancer center.

More than one million Americans are diagnosed with cancer each year. Siteman is reducing the burden of the disease by conducting cutting-edge research and developing innovative treatments. More than 300 Washington University researchers and physicians at Siteman are dedicated to fostering new ways to prevent, detect and treat cancer. Siteman physicians treat approximately 6,000 new cancer patients and more than 30,000 returning patients each year.

We all know someone who has cancer, and we all wish for miracles. Siteman is committed to discovering these miracles. But extraordinary accomplishments require extraordinary investments. Research grants cannot fully sustain the depth and breadth of Siteman’s basic and clinical research. Continued success requires the commitment and philanthropic support of those who share a vision of putting cancer behind us.

The Emerson/Anheuser-Busch Challenge will provide the increased resources needed to respond rapidly to new opportunities for scientific breakthroughs and advances in patient care. By participating in the challenge, you have an exciting opportunity to maximize the impact of your gift.

Giving Opportunities

  • The Siteman Cancer Center Annual Fund
Commitments to the Siteman Cancer Center Annual Fund provide crucial, unrestricted support for research, educational programs, patient care and infrastructure. The Emerson/Anheuser-Busch Challenge will match all new or increased annual commitments.

  • The Director’s Venture Fund
The Director’s Venture Fund enables Siteman's director to provide immediate, significant support for scientific breakthroughs and the most advanced patient-care programs. Major unrestricted commitments to the fund will help Siteman develop new strategic initiatives and pursue cutting-edge opportunities in cancer research and care. Commitments to the Director’s Venture Fund will be matched by the challenge and may be pledged over a period of five years.
