Facing an advanced illness often leads to increased stress for patients and their families. The Palliative Care Service at Barnes-Jewish Hospital is available to help Siteman Cancer Center patients who are seriously ill address such issues as pain, symptom management and quality of life. Assistance also is provided to families and caregivers.
The Palliative Care Service takes an interdisciplinary approach to care through a team of experts that includes a physician, advanced practice nurse, social worker and chaplain. Team members combine their expertise to provide coping strategies and support as well as help managing symptoms such as pain, nausea, fatigue and anxiety. They work closely with a patient's physicians and other health-care providers to coordinate and clarify goals of care and assist with end-of-life issues, when needed.
The Palliative Care Service is available on Siteman's main campus through referral only. For more information, call 314-362-5122 for inpatient consults or 314-747-4780 for outpatient consults.
