Tissue Procurement Core
Director: Mark Watson, MD, PhD
Research Lab Manager: Brian Goetz
The Siteman Cancer Center Tissue Procurement Core provides Washington University researchers and their collaborators with a centralized resource to collect, store and utilize human biospecimens for cancer research. Dedicated staff and facilities are used to generate nucleic acid (DNA and RNA) and histological sections from collected patient specimens. Technologies to facilitate tissue-based translational research such as laser capture microdissection and tissue microarray construction are also available. An archive of over 23,000 snap-frozen biospecimens (tumor tissue, non-malignant tissue, serum, plasma) and corresponding de-identified pathology and demographic data from patients with a variety of solid and hematologic malignancies are available for IRB-approved investigator studies.

As of April 7, 2008, the NIH requires investigators with a publication using Siteman (or other NIH-funded) shared resources to submit (or have submitted for them) their final, peer reviewed manuscripts to PubMed Central(PMC) upon acceptance of publication, to be made publicly available within 12 months of publication. Many journals automatically submit these for authors, but Washington University also has assistance available through the Becker Medical Library. Please see http://publicaccess.nih.gov/FAQ.htm#b7 or http://becker.wustl.edu/classes-consulting/specialized-expertise/nih-public-access-policy for more information.
