Krus Named Nursing Supervisor for South County Location
Shannon Krus has been named nursing supervisor of the new south St. Louis County location of the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine.
Nov. 12, 2012 – Losing her fiancé to cancer changed Shannon Krus’ life profoundly, of course – but not just in
a personal sense. After seeing the care and compassion shown by the oncology nurses she had met, Krus knew she wanted to join them professionally.
Krus quit her job as a computer programmer and started nursing school. Looking back, she says the decision channeled her grief in a positive way, and it continues to guide her perspective on life.
“I’m a much happier person because of my job. I don’t see it as work; I see it as helping others,” says Krus, who has been named nursing supervisor of the new south St. Louis County location of the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine.
Known formally as Siteman Cancer Center-South County, the facility will begin seeing patients on Jan. 7. It’s located at 5225 Midamerica Plaza, near Interstate 55 and Butler Hill Road.
Before being named to her new position, Krus was a staff nurse and nurse coordinator for more than eight years, working with cancer patients at Siteman’s main campus and at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
As nursing supervisor at Siteman’s newest location, Krus will oversee nursing and clinical staff in the chemotherapy treatment area and physician clinics and will coordinate patient services with physicians and other staff members, with a focus on ensuring quality patient care.
“It gives me perspective,” she says. “A lot of people let unimportant things bother them. Caring for patients helps you see the bigger picture.”
The south St. Louis County location is Siteman’s third satellite location and fourth facility overall. The main campus is at 4921 Parkview Place in St. Louis. The other facilities are at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, 10 Barnes West Drive in Creve Coeur, and Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, at 150 Entrance Way in St. Peters.
