Research Interest

Cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox-2) is expressed in colon cancer and other digestive tract cancers. There is extensive evidence that inhibition of Cox-2 inhibits the development and progression of colon cancer. We are interested in the induction of Cox-2 expression in chronic colonic inflammation, such as in human ulcerative colitis (which is associated with an increased incidence of colon cancer), in Barrett's esophagus and in the intestine and colon by acute radiation injury and the role of Cox-2 expression in intestinal stem cell survival after radiation.
