Washington University Medical Campus

Siteman Cancer Center’s main campus is located at Barnes-Jewish Hospital within the Washington University Medical Center complex in the Central West End area of St. Louis. Doctor offices, testing locations and other cancer services are housed in the 107,422-square-foot Center for Advanced Medicine on the southwest corner of Forest Park Parkway and Euclid Avenue. Patients who must be hospitalized are admitted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Some cancer patients are admitted on the north campus of the hospital, which is connected to the Center for Advanced Medicine. Others are admitted to the south campus of the hospital, which is located at the northeast corner of Kingshighway Boulevard and Barnes-Jewish Hospital Drive. Because separate parking facilities are available for these locations, patients and visitors should make sure they know where they are going before they access directions, maps and parking information from the links below. Checklist

The list below is a checklist of items patients should bring to their first appointment at the Siteman Cancer Center. Please note, some items may not apply to every patient.

  • Photo identification
  • Any forms we asked you to complete and any pathology slides, radiology films or other test results we requested
  • A list of your current medications and the amount you are taking of each (You may bring the containers along for reference.)
  • The name, address and phone number of the referring physician
  • Your insurance card and written referral from you insurance company, if needed
  • A list of questions you want to ask your medical team
  • A copy of your living will or advance directive, which will be placed in your permanent record

Parking

Euclid Garage

The Euclid Garage, located at 224 S. Euclid Avenue, serves the Center for Advanced Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital North. The third floor of the garage is connected to the Center for Advanced Medicine by a pedestrian bridge. Handicap parking can be found on all levels, and a convenient drop-off area is located on the third level. Clearance is 8 feet, 4 inches.

Forest Park Laclede Garage

An above-ground parking structure serving our north campus, the Forest Park Laclede garage is located closest to the Center for Outpatient Health. The entrance is located on Laclede Ave., one block northwest of Forest Park Ave. and Euclid Ave. Handicap parking is available on every level near the elevators. Clearance is 8’2″ and it is connected to the hospital by an enclosed pedestrian walkway. Upon entering our garages, please push the button and take a ticket. A ticket is necessary to exit the garage. Depending on your appointment type, discount vouchers may be available.

0-1 hour: $2.00 1-2 hours: $3.00 2-3 hours: $5.00 3-4 hours: $6.00 4-5 hours: $7.00 5-6 hours: $8.00 6-24 hours: $15.00 Payment is accepted by cash, credit and debit cards. No checks will be accepted. Most of the doctor’s offices and clinics provide a 50% parking discount for outpatients.

Reduced Parking Rate

Free or reduced-rate parking is provided to the following patients. Please ask receptionists about discounts at check-in.

  • Patients visiting Siteman physicians – Many physicians provide 50 percent discounts on parking.
  • Patients receiving chemotherapy – Parking is free for patients or their drivers on the day of treatment.
  • Patients receiving radiation therapy – Two-hour parking vouchers are available for patients or their drivers on the day of treatment.

Family members and visitors of patients staying overnight (inpatients) can purchase a parking pass card to use at any of the garages. More than one family member or visitor of an inpatient can use the pass. Passes are $20 for 5 exits and are sold at the south campus gift shop, and the north and south valet desks. Locations and hours of each are listed below.

Valet Parking

Valet parking service is available in the covered drive near the lobby entrance of the Center for Advanced Medicine. Operating hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The cost for the service is $2 plus parking garage fees. Valet service is free for patients with handicap parking tags. North Valet Desk- Center for Advanced Medicine lobby Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. South Valet Desk- Lobby entrance, street level Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Parking for Extended Stay Patients

Inpatients who drive their vehicle to the hospital, and will have an extended stay, may call 314-362-0750 and a member of security or guest services will bring them an exit ticket. This ticket will waive all fees if the vehicle is not moved during the inpatient’s stay. Anyone needing assistance may contact the hospital’s department of public safety at 314-362-0750. For emergencies, call 314-362-0911. RV parking is available on the medical near the Taylor Avenue Building, 600 S. Taylor Avenue. These are electric-only hook ups, no water. Shuttle Service

A free, wheelchair-accessible shuttle is available to patients and visitors from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday through Friday. The route includes the hospital’s north and south campuses and picks up every 20 minutes. The shuttle picks up from the Hope Lodge and the Ronald McDonald House every hour. On weekends and holidays, transportation is available via a hospital security vehicle every two even hours beginning at 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Please call the shuttle number (314-362-0750) to confirm a pick-up at a certain time. Weekend and holiday hours do not include Hope Lodge or the Ronald McDonald House. Shuttle busses stop at the following locations on the Washington University Medical Center campus:

  • Barnes-Jewish Hospital South, West Pavilion (entrance located off of Barnes-Jewish Hospital Plaza)

Out of Town Visitors

Getting to St. Louis

The St. Louis area is served by Lambert International Airport, a short 20-minute ride from the Siteman Cancer Center. Daily, weekly and monthly car rentals are available at the airport. In addition, public transportation is available from the airport to the cancer center’s main campus. This includes a light-rail system with a station on the Washington University Medical Center campus in the Central West End area of St. Louis that is just a few blocks from the cancer center. Transportation Assistance Free air transportation may be available to qualifying patients and family members through a nonprofit organization called Air Charity Network. The organization, formerly known as Angel Flight, matches passengers with pilots throughout the United States who donate their time, aircraft and fuel to help others. Barnes Lodge is a hospitality house operated by Barnes-Jewish Hospital for patients and family members who live 50 miles outside of the St. Louis area. Safe and affordable lodging services are provided in a supportive atmosphere. Although Barnes Lodge is located only a short distance from the main hospital, transportation to the hospital is provided by the hospital shuttle service.

In-Room Dining and Area Restaurants

Patient Meal Services

Meal service for hospitalized patients varies according to the location of the hospital unit. Patients hospitalized in Barnes-Jewish Hospital North are served through the Dining-On-Call program. The program allows patients to order meals by telephone at their convenience, similar to a hotel’s room service. Menus are located in patient rooms. The service operates between 6:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily. Meals can be ordered by calling (314) 454-5362. Patients hospitalized in Barnes-Jewish Hospital South are served through a program called Catering-To-You. Catering associates visit patients throughout the day to offer menu selections, prepare meal trays and take care of special food service needs. Patient meals generally are served between these hours:

  • Breakfast – 7 to 9 a.m.
  • Lunch – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Dinner – 4:45 to 6:00 p.m.

Kosher meals are available in both locations through an authorized caterer, which is supervised by the Vaad Hoeir of St. Louis. Patients who wish to observe a kosher, vegetarian or other special diet should indicate their wishes during the admitting process or speak with a nurse or food service associate. Meal trays may be ordered for visitors for a small fee. Guest trays cost $9. To order a guest tray, speak to a nurse or food service associate.

Cafeteria Dining

The Northern Lights Cafe, located on the ground floor of the Center for Advanced Medicine, is open daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, night supper, snacks, and beverages. The South cafeteria, located within Barnes-Jewish Hospital South, is open daily from 5:45 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., and serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, night supper, snacks and beverages. Coffee Bars & Vending Machines

Coffee bars are located in the lobby of the Center for Advanced Medicine and at the end of the pedestrian bridge for the parking garage at Barnes-Jewish Hospital South. Coffee and baked goods are available Monday through Friday from 6:15 a.m to 5 p.m. at both locations. The coffee bar in the Center for Advanced Medicine also features a variety of grab-and-go items such as sandwiches and salads. Vending machines, located on the main north-south corridor and the street level of the East Pavilion, provide drinks, snacks, and sandwiches at all hours for your convenience.

Neighborhood

The neighborhood surrounding the medical campus is called the Central West End. This St. Louis neighborhood boosts cultural diversity with several different dining options, boutiques, and attractions. Here you can learn about area restaurants and local attractions.

Area Restaurants

There are a variety of restaurants in the neighborhood, many within walking distance. These range from quick, inexpensive lunch options to more formal dining. An Applebee’s is directly across the street from the Center for Advanced Medicine and a Panera Bread café is across Forest Park Parkway. Many other selections are a short walk north on Euclid Avenue. The Information/Concierge Desks have brochures on this area and can assist you. For authentic Italian cuisine, patients and visitors may be interested in driving to The Hill, a local neighborhood known for its nationally-acclaimed restaurants, specialty groceries and bakeries. The Hill neighborhood is about 1.5 miles south of the hospital, off of Kingshighway Boulevard. Other dining options can be found at stlmag.com/dining or marylandplaza.com. Attractions

Located a block away from the Center for Advanced Medicine is the world re-known Forest Park. Located in the heart of St. Louis and sprawling over 1,293 acres, St. Louis’ Forest Park is easily a favorite attraction for St. Louisans. Within the park are located some of the region’s greatest cultural institutions, many of which have free admission. The park includes the St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Art Museum, Missouri History Museum, St. Louis Science Center and The Muny outdoor theater. It also serves as a sports center for golf, tennis, baseball, bicycling, boating, fishing, handball, ice skating, roller blading, jogging, rugby and more. The Siteman Cancer Center offers a variety of support programs for patients and families at all of our locations. These programs range from support groups and exercise programs to educational sessions and pet therapy. Many of our services are offered through a virtual format.

Therapeutic Horticulture with the Missouri Botanical Gardens

A therapeutic horticulturist will bring plants to make arrangements with patients, press note cards, make tea bags with different herbs, or discuss the medicinal benefits of plants and flowers.

For assistance in making travel arrangements to our main campus, contact your travel agent or our Guest and Patient Relations Department. Staff members in the department are experienced in assisting patients and families with all aspects of their stay.
